Competition team at St Michael and All Angels
On Saturday 6th March 2010 the St Laurence team of ringers competed in the striking competition organised by the Northern branch of the WDCRA at the church of St Michael and All Angels in Brierly Hill and won first prize in the Call Changes category.
From left to right the team members in the photograph are: Pippa Morley, Penny Bradsell, Greg Hunt, Pam Morley, Geoff Franklin.

As with the previous years' competitions the team had to ring for about five minutes and had to work through a number of standard calls including Queens, Hagdyke and Whittingtons. After a few minutes practice with the bells - none of the team had rung at St Michael before - we began the competition piece conducted by Greg Hunt. |

This was the third year that the St Laurence Team had won the competition and, although there were only three other teams in our category we were very please to have won again. Next year we will be moving out of the Call Changes category and taking part in the Methods competition. This brings a new level of difficulty because there will no longer be a conductor.
For Call Changes the ringers are merely following instructions and their performances are judged on the rhythm of their striking. In Method Ringing they have to be able to work through the entire performance from memory and they will be judged on accuracy as well as on rhythm.
