2005 Ringers

The ringing team has changed over the years but for various reasons we started 2005 with a dangerously small team. We have eight bells in the tower and could only ring four or five of them. Some weeks when ringers were away we were reduced to a team of three. On those days we kept the bells silent and just rang the five minute bell before the service. A performance on three bells always sounds worrying close to the nursery rhyme "Three Blind Mice"; not at all suitable for church on a Sunday evening.

We had been trying to recruit and train new ringers for several years but in 2005 we realised that we were almost at the stage where we would be too small a band to be able to train anybody. We made a special effort throughout the year and the photograph shows nine ringers at a Tuesday night training session.
