February 2007
I gave a list of forthcoming events last month. One, the talk to the Alvechurch Historical Society, went well and as I write this we've another, the Valentine's Dance, planned for tomorrow night. More news about that next month.
Over Christmas I was asking whether anyone could store the two lambs we'll be roasting at our May Day event. That's all under control now but the other thing we need for a lamb roast is a fire. This isn't going to be a barbecue with the lambs on a spit. Instead the meat will be cooked slowly in the embers of a large bonfire and that's going to need a lot of wood. We've made a start by helping Beoley to tidy up the remains of their trees which blew down in the recent storm and we've the promise of another trailer load but we are going to need more than that to keep this size of fire burning for eight hours. If you are tidying up some trees we'd be grateful for any spare logs.
Other news is that we're sending a couple of teams to the Quiz at Beoley on March 9th. This is raising money for the Association as a whole and, seeing as we're hoping for a restoration grant from the Association, we're doing our best to support the event. If anyone else would like to bring a team along, tickets are £5 per person which includes a fish and chip supper.
Phone me on 0121 445 1300 if you can help us with wood or if you want tickets for the Quiz.
We do have an unscheduled and unexpected fundraising event coming up in the Spring. Milton Bowers will be running the Shakespeare Marathon at Stratford for us on April 29th. Ask any bellringer if you'd like to sponsor him.
Finally, we must thank the Sycamore Day Centre and Dr and Mrs Luxmore-Peake for their donations to the fund.
