WDCRA Striking Competition
Alvechurch bellringers won the call change section of the WDCRA (Worcestershire and Districts Change Ringing Association) Striking Competition on Saturday 6th March. This was held by the Northern Branch at St Michael and All Angels at Brierly Hill and we beat off three competitors in our category.
The band consisted of:
- Pippa Morley (Treble)
- Penny Bradsell (2nd)
- Pam Morley (3rd)
- Geoff Franklin (4th)
- Greg Hunt (5th and Caller)
- Colin Bennett (Tenor)
The five minute performance had to include the following changes : Queens, Seesaw, Hagdyke and Whittingtons. Starting off in rounds the caller changed the order of the bells to lead us to each of these standard sequences and we had to maintain a steady rhythm as the order changed. The contest was judged on least faults which are counted as any clips, crunches or pauses.
We have now won the Change Ringing section of the competition three times in a row and next year we hope to enter a team in a higher category. This time we will have to perform a recognised method such as Grandsire or Bob Doubles with no guidance from a caller beyond "Go Grandsire" to start us off and "That's all" to stop us.
